One form of tile printing is a dye sublimation process that infuses
either dye or glaze into a tile. This can be direct print or through
heat transfer. Most commercial mugs and small tiles use this latter
process. Another way is to transfer a picture onto tile in the form
of a template and then hand paint the glaze. This is a long process
which includes reduction of a picture into a small number of colors.
The creation of a glaze palette that doesn't run together, isolation
and enlargement of all the color regions, transferring the regions
onto tile and then hand painting with a glaze. I am currently having
a picture transferred onto tile this way. It is being done by Tile
Canvases, pioneers in using this method.
