jumped into this, just hit the y key and continue, notice that
there are loops in this, writing that comes up again and follows a same path for awhile,
then branches off without my control. Didn't use the "words that yield" an
interesting terminology in that being web bred I think of links as a jump rather than a
yielding, the current narrative yields to another, again I'm quite astonished how a simple
thing like hidden links can change the structure.
a narrative embedded in a historical moment, the Gulf War,
characters fictional but the War and the odd semi-participation w/ the TV. The TV being a
fiction in itself, a real-time history-by-the-victors moment to moment fiction. A real
war, an official fiction, a fictional narrative.
I don't watch much TV, have dropped it completely at various
moments in my life, best to get my information from other, more obscure sources,
vibrations in the ground, that sort of thing. Funny how a hypertext is used to follow what
will be thought of as the last GREAT TV event. I guess OJ the next and then
this present "scandal." But the Gulf War was all TV, it dominated all other
media, by OJ I was downloading OJ jokes over the Net and by the time Monica got her lips
around Bill's cigar, well, they brought Sam Donaldson out of retirement but the net has
Salon and searchable video, has already eclipsed TV in many ways.
The Gulf War itself a last gasp of modern warfare in our century.
What could be more post-modern than the struggles in the Balkans w/ their recycling of
thousand year old grudges. We had all this ordinance left over from the collapse of
Communism and we HAD to win one last battle, so fling it at some half-formed country whose
strategies are barely past trench warfare.
I like the comments about the sixties. Funny how the media has
ignored completely that part of American history, probably cause much of it was hidden,
outside the understanding of any pundit. They jumped the nostalgia wagon directly from
50's to 70's without a blink. Gulf War was one repudiation of the sixties, like the Just
Say Yo drug wars of the 80's. Even today I hear the present scandal blamed on the sixties.
Funny how modern feminism arose from the macho extremes of the sixties "leaders"
and these same macho extremes are being used as an excuse to destroy feminism.
