(February 26, Gulf of Mexico)
Walk the dogs early at Howard Park,
storms moving in from the Gulf of Mexico.
Ate, again, at the Bread and Butter Deli:
Greek salads with crab meat. Delicious.
Storms roll in about 5 pm, seas at 3-5 feet,
lightning, four and a half inches of rain predicted,
thunder. Go to get beer before it hits.
A Thai man has bought the gas station/store
at the harbor entrance. His daughter is beautiful.
As I’m paying, I say a little prayer
that they are never robbed or abused
in the course of conducting their business.
Hear “Start Me Up” on the way back,
pull into the garage with it blasting,
turn off the engine, lower the door
and revel in the last, great Rolling Stones single.
The garage door sounds like it might buckle,
it pops and breathes, loose rain strafes
the sheet metal and sticks to the windows.
We’re here, alone and apart. I’m happy.

Getting ready to put out a Fla chapbook.
