Listening to old bootleg
tapes of Dylan in
tiny coffee-houses
in the early sixties.
Those people
couldn’t have known
the incredible force
of nature that was
manifesting before
their very eyes. By all
reports the places
every night slowly
but surely emptied,
even as Dylan,
Huck-Finn cap perched
atop his head, peach-
fuzz on his face, emptied
out his heart and mind
in a way no one had
ever really done before.
It was 1962 and the
revolution was about
to begin – but then
as now, Dylan was well
ahead of the game
and by the time the
rest of the world had
caught up, he was
already long gone,
like those same coffee-
houses in the Village.
